The 18th Asian Financial Forum (AFF) wrapped up successfully, attracting over 3,600 policymakers, business leaders, and industry experts from more than 50 countries and regions. This high-profile event explored the latest developments in global financial markets and emerging investment opportunities, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a leading international financial centre.
Hong Kong’s Role in Driving Financial Innovation and Growth
With the theme “Powering the Next Growth Engine,” the AFF focused on how Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to navigate challenges in a rapidly changing global economy. The forum also set the stage for more major conferences and exhibitions in the financial and business sectors throughout the year.
The event commenced with opening remarks by John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Other keynote speakers included:
- Zhou Ji, Executive Vice Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.
- Dr Pan Gongsheng, Governor of the People’s Bank of China.
- Liu Zhenmin, Special Envoy for Climate Change of the People’s Republic of China.
AFF Deal-Making and Key Discussions
A core highlight of the forum was the AFF Deal-Making sessions, where more than 700 one-on-one meetings connected global investors with diverse investment projects. These sessions aimed to foster cross-border partnerships and capital flows across industries.
On-site polling conducted during the forum identified key growth drivers for the Asia-Pacific region, with generative AI-led innovation emerging as the top priority (41.6%), followed by non-AI innovation in digital infrastructure and healthcare (23%).
